BITS Marketplace

Every Item a Spark,
Every Batch a Story.

Hostel rooms reset every August. Mattresses, lamps, buckets, books — things students still need, just not the same students. We pass them forward instead of binning them.

02 / Manifesto

Every August, hostel rooms across campus reset to zero.
Mattresses, lamps, buckets, books things students still need, just not the same students.
We pass them forward instead.

03 / About
Our mission

Every year at BITS Hyderabad, the same story repeats itself.

A student arrives on campus with empty shelves and a long shopping list. A few years later, the same student leaves behind a room full of things that are still perfectly usable — mattresses, buckets, mugs, curtains, books, lamps, umbrellas, posters, and countless little pieces of hostel life.

And so, every August, a new batch starts over from scratch — buying the same essentials again, spending the same money again, solving the same problem again.

We thought there had to be a better way. So we started building one.

BITS Marketplace is an attempt to make campus life a little more sustainable, affordable, and connected. Instead of letting useful items disappear every summer, we want to pass them forward — from one batch to the next.

A set of buckets, a study lamp, or a stack of first-year books can still make someone else's first week on campus easier. If enough of us contribute a little, over time this can save students a significant amount of money, reduce unnecessary waste every semester, and make moving in much less overwhelming for incoming batches.

04 / The Loop

Twelve months,
one continuous
hand-off.

The campus year doesn't pause for graduation. While seniors are packing in May, juniors are already pre-booking from home. The loop keeps moving so nothing useful sits in a landfill for the rest of its useful life.

05 / What hostel life leaves behind

The full inventory,
straight from the room.

Anything that fits in a hostel room or a balcony. Donors list it, juniors pre-book it, volunteers move it. We don't ship books to your door — we just keep the campus economy circular.

Mattress
The single biggest thing nobody wants to drag home.
Books
Course readers, novels, year-three notes.
Lamps
Reading lights that survived four years of all-nighters.
Electronics
Kettles, fans, table chargers.
Furniture
Side tables, racks, stools.
Buckets & mugs
Sounds boring. Ask anyone moving in on day one.
Dustbins
Trivial to buy, easier to inherit.
Room decor
Posters, frames, fairy lights, mirrors.
Curtains
Hostel windows are hostile without them.
& more
If it survived four monsoons, list it.

Three roles,
one shared rhythm.
